Sibling Relationships in A Yellow Raft in Blue Water Relationships play an important role in ones life. They are formed on the basis of love and understanding. Relationship helps various people in every aspect of life and assists them in being a better person. Such a relationship was found in the novel A Yellow Raft In Blue Water. Christine and Lee had a unique brother-sister relationship. They cared for and protected each other and as well as overcame their fears of life. Christine did not believe in herself and tried very hard to be accepted by the society. Lee was the one who made Christine gain confidence and accepted her for who she was. At first Lee had not agreed to Christines wish, If you go through with this youre not my brother (164). When Lee contended his sisters wish, she was filled with pride. Secondly, both Christine and Lee cared deeply for each other. They were equally important to each other and there was always a mutual understanding between them. At one point Lee risked his life to save Christine, although Lee was quite young at that time he still knew that it was important to protect his sister. Lee was everywhere with me and in the spring he saved my life (146). This quote describes the emotions existing between Lee and Christine. When Christine was in danger Lee knew that he had to save her no matter what, she was his sister, she was the one person who truly loved him and without her he would not be able to live on. He wasnt just my best friend, he was the only I trusted, the only one who never let me down (156). In this line Christine conveys her affection for Lee. Not only did Lee and Christine treasure an exceptional relationship, they were best friend who trusted each other with their lives. Finally, Lee and Christine surmounted their fears of life by being with one another. Christine had always feared rejection, without Lees love and understanding Christine would never have had her carefree
